Safety-critical work measured, not estimated

Pads, discs, dampers, springs, steering and bearings checked against limits and confirmed by a road test before the vehicle comes back to you.

Brakes & Suspension

Measured against the maker’s limits, then road tested

Brakes and suspension are worked on by measurement. Pad and disc thickness, caliper condition, damper behaviour, springs and bushes, steering play and wheel-bearing noise are all checked against the manufacturer’s limits rather than judged by feel.

Where a part is worn beyond its limit it is replaced; where it is still within it we say so and leave it alone. Either way you get the measurements, because a reading is easier to judge than an opinion.

Once the work is done the vehicle is road tested, so the result is confirmed under load and at speed before handover.

  • Dampers and springs inspected
  • Steering and wheel bearings checked
  • Road test after completion

What the job involves

Four points that cover the work, and the order it happens in.

Measured against limitsThickness and play are measured and compared with the maker’s figures, not estimated by eye.
Worn parts onlyIf a component is still within limits we tell you that too, rather than replacing it by default.
Side to side comparedCorner-to-corner comparison shows up uneven wear and points at the reason behind it.
Road tested afterThe finished vehicle is driven before handover, so the result is confirmed rather than assumed.
Pricing & approval

How brake and suspension work is priced

Quoted per vehicle and per corner. Size and type of disc, caliper and damper decide the parts figure, and the parts and labour are listed separately so you can see what each part of the job costs before you approve it.

The garage last time said my discs were fine. Can they really be worn already?
It depends on mileage, driving and the pads fitted. Because we measure and compare both sides, you get a thickness reading rather than a judgement — and the limit it is compared against comes from the vehicle’s manufacturer.
Do I need a road test after brake work?
Yes. New pads and discs need to bed in, and a road test confirms the pedal, the balance and the absence of noise before you get the vehicle back.
Can you tell whether suspension noise is a damper or a bush?
Usually by inspection under load on the ramp, and confirmed on the road. We will tell you which component is responsible before quoting.
