Mechanical Repairs

Repairs explained and approved before anything is fitted

Mechanical repair covers the work that keeps a vehicle usable rather than merely legal: engine and transmission faults, cooling and exhaust systems, belts, hoses and pumps, and the general wear items that eventually have to be replaced.

Every job starts the same way as diagnostic work. The cause is confirmed first, and the repair is priced from that finding. Where a repair can be done more than one way — for example with a choice of parts, or a repair rather than a replacement — the options and the difference in price reach you before anything is ordered.

When the work is finished the vehicle is run, and driven where the repair affects how it drives, so the fix is confirmed before handover.

What the job involves

Four points that cover the work, and the order it happens in.

Cause confirmed firstA repair is quoted only after the fault behind it has been identified.
Options shown with pricesWhere there is a choice of parts or approach, you see both before anything is ordered.
Time agreed in advanceWork that needs the vehicle longer is agreed with you rather than assumed.
Checked before handoverThe repair is run, and driven where relevant, before the vehicle goes back.
Pricing & approval

Repair work is quoted from the finding

A repair quotation follows a confirmed cause, so the figure means something. Labour and parts are listed separately, options are priced side by side, and the job waits for your approval before any parts are ordered for it.

How do I know the repair is what the vehicle actually needs?
Because the cause is confirmed before the repair is quoted. You get the finding — what was tested and what failed — alongside the price for putting it right.
Can you repair rather than replace?
Often, yes. Where a component can be reconditioned or repaired rather than replaced, we will price both and let you decide, rather than assuming the more expensive option.
What if the vehicle needs to stay longer than expected?
We tell you as soon as we know, with the reason and a revised time, rather than leaving it open. Nothing additional is charged without your agreement.

Describe the fault and we will say what it involves

Tell us what the vehicle is doing — a noise, a leak, a loss of power, a warning — and we will say what we would inspect and how long it would need.
